In the 1980s, former chairman, Shui-Mu Shih found out from a Japanese client during one of his business trips that the amount of fructose required to achieve the same flavor as other type of sugar is much less. Moreover, the stability in terms of quality is also much higher. As such, when Shih returned to Taiwan, he started to produce fructose, and the company became a first mover in the industry. Following rounds of restructuring subsequently, Fonen & Fonher becomes what it is today.
